AcidRip is a simplified GUI for converting a DVD to an AVI file. Generally, create 2 files of 700MB each to produce a good quality backup. Acidrip will split the video at a chapter break.

In short:

1. Click the Reload button to obtain a table of contents for the DVD;
2. Change the Disc title appropriately;
3. Choose the No. Files (1 by default, but 2 if there is a problem identified with the Video Bits/Pixel;
4. Set the Info to name the movie;
5. Select a Subtitle if desired;
6. On the Video tab, perhaps click the Detect button for cropping to the correct size, but leave it as 0 and see what happens;
7. On the Video tab, turn off the Scale option so that you get the original size;
8. On the Preview tab you can choose to watch a bit of a preview of the resulting movie;
9. When you are ready, click the Start button and over the next few hours the work will be done. Note that the main window collapses to a progress window while the work is being done.
